Cheerleader Files Sexual Harassment Suit against University, Coach
August 28, 2009
Kasey Chambers, a former cheerleader at Marshall University, has recently filed a lawsuit against her cheerleading coach and her university for allowing blatant sexual harassment of herself and the other cheerleaders.
According to the suit, the women were sexually abused, harassed, and discriminated against by their male squad members. The men would grab the girls’ bras, expose themselves, grope the girls and even threaten the women with physical harm (such as dropping them during routines) if they did not agree to have sex with them.
In addition, the coach required that the female cheerleaders be subjected to weight, activity, and attendance requirements, which were not expected of their male counterparts. They were even encouraged to throw up in order to lose weight.
At a golf event, the female cheerleaders were instructed to place golf balls in their cleavage and in their skirts. They were also told to kiss a putter shaped as penis for good luck and to show their breasts to male golfers.
The former athletic director testified in the case and said that, in fact, two male cheerleaders had already been dismissed for lewd behavior.
