The Two Types Of Sexual Harassment

Sexual harassment in the workplace comes in two very different forms that can be in categories of their own. Also, within these two categories: quid pro quo and hostile environment sexual harassment, there are many ways one can sexually harass someone. To make it simple, the two types of sexual harassment and the explanation of both are:

Quid Pro Quo Sexual Harassment - This type of harassment occurs after the end of a sexual or romantic relationship in the workplace. It can also include two individuals have not yet started this type of relationship. In one kind of quid pro quo, one member of the former relationship will get upset for the other breaking up with him or her and retaliate against the other. The other kind is when an employee asks another out to a social event or date, the individual whom is asked says no, and the one that asked gets upset and retaliates. Some of these retaliations include: withholding resources, firing, revoking priveledges and any other unfair treatment.

Hostile Work Environment Sexual Harassment - This type of sexual harassment can occur in several different forms. Some of the most common are: repeated requests for sexual favors, jokes that are sexual in nature, leering, and many others. When the advances or behavior is warned by the victim to be unacceptable and the individual responsible for the behavior does not stop, he/she is committing sexual harassment.
