Sexual Harassment Investigations

Sexual harassment investigations should be conducted immediately directly after any complaint of sexual harassment as been brought before an employer. In fact, if an employer fails to conduct an investigation, then that employer may become liable as well, even if she or he had no involvement in the sexual harassment. The investigation should begin immediately, within forty eight hours, rather than within a few weeks. During the investigation, it is best to make sure that the accused harasser and the victim are separated, but not in a manner that is discriminatory. Many seemingly different types of actions may be considered to be a violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which makes sex discrimination illegal. Anyone who is in the position of investigating a sexual harassment complaint should first familiarize themselves with all of the laws that encompass sexual harassment so that the investigation can be conducted effectively.
