Report Sexual Harassment

Victims should report sexual harassment no matter where it occurs, and there are several different avenues one can take. The local authorities are a good starting place. If the incident occurred at work, the individual should file a report with the EEOC or Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Sexual harassment that happens at school should be reported to parents and the dean or principal. Sexual harassment is illegal and should not be tolerated. In order for someone to be sued for sexual harassment, the plaintiff must only prove that he or she was affected by the harassment (that it was offensive, abusive or hostile), and that any reasonable person who had been in the position of the plaintiff would have also found the behavior offensive, abusive or hostile.

Fast Facts

  • The EEOC handles 15,000 cases of sexual harassment each year and is often successful at getting compensation for victims.
