Quid Pro Quo Harassment

Quid Pro Quo harassment is sexual harassment that happens when an employer or requests sexual favors in exchange for being hired, receiving a promotion, receiving a raise in pay, or for any other type of work related perk or favor. In addition, Quid Pro Quo, literally, "this for that", sexual harassment includes cases in which an employee is denied any of the above because he or she has rejected the sexual advances of the employer. Quid Pro Quo sexual harassment is a form of sexual discrimination, as are all acts of sexual harassment. As such, harassers are in violation of the victim's civil rights as stated in Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Victims of Quid Pro Quo sexual harassment should make it known from the beginning that the advances are unwelcome and they should document everything as much as possible. If the behavior continues the employee should contact EEOC to file a complaint.
