Homosexual Discrimination

Homosexual discrimination is a form of discrimination. It occurs when an individual in the workplace, school, socially or in public discriminates against another individual based on sexual orientation. The legal ramifications of homosexual discrimination vary across the United States. If the individual is a federal government employee, there are consequences. If the person is in the school system, there is usually legal recourse for an instance of homosexual discrimination. If, however, the person is a member of the workforce, suing or other forms of redress may not be a viable option. Some states and companies do have a policy of "zero tolerance" for discrimination for all citizens and employees no matter what their sexual preference. Other states and companies do not. In the latter situation, it is actually legal to fire or refuse to hire someone who is gay or lesbian. Consult a lawyer experienced in harassment and discrimination cases.
