Glass Ceiling

Glass ceiling is a metaphorical term used to refer to a barrier based on discrimination of women in the corporate system. A glass ceiling describes the often subtle ways a corporative entity has of ensuring women do not obtain appointment into the higher levels of management. In essence, the glass ceiling prevents females of achieving positions in the top jobs of any business. It refers to a situation where women feel that, try as hard as they can to rise up on the designated path to control, the upper echelons continue to block their progress. When a glass ceiling is operative, men continue to occupy the positions close to and at the top of a company. This type of discrimination is covered under the Civil Rights Act of 1964. A sexual harassment attorney or employment law specialist can help a woman break the glass ceiling.
