The Ohio Civil Rights Commission just finished investigating the case of Tom Wagner, the mayor of Streetsboro, Ohio. According to several sources, he has been accused of several counts of sexual harassment. Many of his female employees said that he made several blatant and unwanted sexual advances towards them during work hours. One said that she was physically assaulted, while another said that he made constant comments about her breasts. When she talked to an investigator, she was laid off.
After the investigation was complete, the Commission gave the mayor an ultimatum. He was asked to leave his appointment or face a number of criminal charges. He did not resign and could not be reached for comment. The charter for the city of Streetsboro allows the city council to oust any elected official for gross misconduct, so the citizens of this town are now seriously considering this possibility.
A hearing will now be held on May 2nd in the council’s chambers to determine the mayor’s fate. Council members will decide whether or not he is guilty of the following offenses: alcohol consumption, gun possession and inappropriate behavior while on the job. Additionally, the police may press criminal charges for sexual harassment and retaliation.
